With so many talented people trying to make their name in the music industry, starting a band requires patience, commitment and most of all passion: qualities that are clearly embedded into each of the four members of Essex band, Kill Bosco. After just under a year performing together, they have already secured regular slots at all their local venues and are constantly releasing new demos to be played on their city’s radio station. It can’t be very long before their community catches up with the pure rock and roll that emanates even from the very early days of this band.
Whereas for frontman Dean, it has always been his ambition to entertain people, each of the other members stumbled onto music in their own unique way. For Matt, it was being taught bass for his friend’s performance at his school Christmas concert. Yet for Aaron, it was his love of 90s alternative bands, Nirvana and Oasis, that inspired him to ask his dad for guitar lessons during his teenage years. Chris’ story is perhaps the most fateful: accidentally intruding on his friend’s drum lesson, his curiosity got the better of him and he decided to try out the drum kit, finding both an inner talent and enthusiasm for the instrument. 24 years on, after graduating from pots and pans to a full blown drum kit, he is still going strong!
It was actually Dean and Chris who knew each other first, performing together for three years in their band, KLQQ. After producing a number 5 album and number 8 single on the German charts, the band sadly disbanded, leaving Dean and Chris in want of like-minded souls to revitalise their musical career. United by their love of Dave Grohl, Phil Collins and Noel Gallagher, Kill Bosco was formed, their latest track, Hole being one of the first tracks they ever wrote.
Hole is also the first song formally released by the band and is a step above the few demos Kill Bosco has sent to Chelmsford Community Radio. Retaining the endless energy evident in the punchy, power-chord driven choruses they have perfected so well in their other two tracks, the band have managed to add a level emotion that creates a whole new element to their sound. Feelings of anticipation and desperation are evoked during the intro and verse of the song by the sound of a steady and unrelenting muted guitar string along with its intermittent and more dissonant echo. The rhythm section just adds to the driving force of the song, building up to an impassioned chorus – an ode to powerful Stadium Rock… Foo Fighters, Oasis?
With husky vocals and epic guitar solos, Kill Bosco may initially seem like your average local rock band – vibrant live shows but simple song writing. However, it is their ability not to rely on chords as an accompaniment for their vocals that gives them true hope for the future. Instead, they allow every instrument to shine through and provide an intricate and enticing layering of sounds. That was what really stood out to me about their latest track – that and the fact that I couldn’t stop my feet from moving!
The feelings expressed in Hole could not have a greater relevance with so many bands facing uncertainty at this time. The lyrics talk about the endless struggle to move forward and the feeling of being trapped within ourselves. An EP was supposed to be released on the 1st May, marking the start of a small tour. Instead, they have released this very fitting track and continue to write music from their homes. If you enjoy this track, make sure to share it as widely as you can so that the band can launch into action as soon as lock down is over. Their road to success is in your hands!
